Surface Grinding
Grinding of even surfaces is called surface grinding. Surface grinding is used to produce a smooth finish on flat surfaces. The tool executes the cutting movement and the work piece the advance movement. There is a distinction between peripheral grinding and face grinding.
In peripheral grinding, the grinding process is executed using the circumference of the grinding tool. The grinding spindle is set horizontally and the machine table, on which an electromagnet generally secures the work piece, moves back and forth in a straight line. The lateral advance is executed by the grinding disk.
In face grinding, the grinding process is executed using the face of a grinding ring, abrasive ring or segment disk. Here the grinding tool executes the cutting movement and the work piece the lateral advance movement.
