Similar to hard turning, hard milling is defined as the milling of hardened steel. Molds and stamps are manufactured in tool making directly from hardened steel blocks through hard milling. This makes it possible to forgo the pre-milling of work pieces before hardening, eliminating the need for subsequent machining and manual polishing in many cases.
