Engraving is possible on the majority of materials by virtue of laser-induced material removal. The engraving is not always produced with a color change but is at least visible as a contrast of different surface structures. Laser engraving of this type is very durable and can be removed only by deep grinding; for this reason it is used for fraud-safe engraving of metal parts, among other things.
