Plug-cut or Plunge Grinding
Among other things, plug-cut or plunge grinding describes a form of centerless grinding, wherein both the grinding disk and the control disk have the “negative profile” of the work piece. In this fashion all diameters to be ground on the work piece can be worked simultaneously. An axial stop on likewise similarly profiled support rail ensures an accurate work piece position.
Plug-cut grinding is cost-effective only for high-volume production due to retrofitting replacement and adjustment costs for both disks: changing the work-rest rail is also relatively costly.
