Thread Whirling
Thread whirling is suitable for the production of long threads with special conical cross-sections.
One advantage of thread whirling is that even materials that are difficult to cut by chip removal can be worked with very small tolerances. This calls for special lathe fittings, as 3-6 blades rotate eccentrically around the work piece, depending on the type of material.
Whirling is often required for manufacturing precise and dimensionally stable bone screws from titanium or stainless steel.
